LESSON TWO  The Quilt Makers Gift

 

Element of Compassion: sharing & giving     

 

Dance Content: Body (activity, base); Shape (forms, qualities); Space (levels)

 

The students will:

• discuss the value of sharing and giving.

• memorize short dance phrases.

• create short choreographic phrases.

• teach phrases to others as a way of sharing.

 

Lesson 2 is based on the chidlren's book "The Quiltmaker's Gift," students will learn the value of giving through a Quilt Dance activity. In this group activity, they create a dance, and actually give part of it away and recieve part of another group's dance for themselves. Not only do students learn about an important element of compassion, but they also gain an awareness of the dance elements of body, space, and shape.
